By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 4 - In an extended celebration of the World Autism Awareness Day, Easel Art Foundation of Guwahati organised an art workshop and on-the-spot art competition today at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra art gallery for the differently-abled children of Destination, an NGO operating to serve the target groups in and around the city.

Based at Bhagaduttapur in the city, Destination caters to over 80 differently-abled inmates, of which 42 are children and rest adults. It runs two shelter homes to cater to the needy of the area, said Rupa Hazarika, president of Destination.

Wahida Ahmed, freelance artist and director of the Easel Art Foundation and Gallery, who was the driving force behind the programme, said, Art is a creative medium through which the differently-abled people find recreation and a sense of fulfilment. This is precisely the reason for which we decided to hold this workshop and on-the-spot art competition for the inmates of Destination. Ahmed is involved with programmes featuring the children of Destination. She also holds workshops and related programmes for rural and underprivileged children.

In his address as the appointed speaker of the event, Dr Navanil Barua, Director, Neurosurgery, GNRC Hospitals, lauded the efforts of the Easel Foundation to serve the society by working for the disadvantageous sections.

Another distinguished guest at the event, Sanjib Narayan, a noted name in the cultural spheres of the State, expressed his satisfaction on being involved in such a noble programme.
