ARSU (M) hits back at secretary over statement

By Correspondent

TURA, April 8 - The president of All Rabha Students Union (Meghalaya) who had through a release a few days ago supported the candidature of NPP MP candidate, Agatha K Sangma, has hit out at the general secretary of ARSU (M) North Garo Hills, Radesh Rabha, after a statement by him denying support from the organisation.

A delegation of Rabha associations, including the Rabha Jatiya Seva Sangha, All Rabha Students Union, All Rabha Womens Welfare Association and Rabha Intellectual Forum, had promised their support after assurances by Agatha of looking into their grievances.

The general secretary, however, through a statement stated that the organisation was apolitical in nature and as such would not support any political party.

The statement by the GS is unconstitutional and unauthorised. The statement was also given without the consent of the president. The statement is anti-community and is strongly condemned, said president of ARSU (M) Lalit Rabha.

He further added that while the ARSU was apolitical, it was with the thought that the community would be benefitted that they decided to support the NPP.

We shall never compromise with issues related to the greater interests of our community. We have not joined the NPP but it is only on the assurances given that we have decided to support Agatha Sangma, added the ARSU (M) president.
