GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - Police today said the operation that led to the recovery of two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) here on Wednesday night was launched based on the statements made by ULFA militant Raktim Gogoi, who was arrested in Tinsukia.
Gogoi, a resident of Pengeri, was today brought to Guwahati and after being produced before a court, he was remanded in five-day police custody.
The explosive devices were recovered last night from two different locations under Panbazar and Paltanbazar police stations.
Commissioner of Guwahati Police MK Gupta said further interrogation of Raktim is on. He also said that necessary efforts have been put in place to avert any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, sources at the Assam Police headquarters here said all the SPs have been directed to reassess the threat perception and act accordingly. They have also been directed to heighten the vigil and act tough on those trying to trigger violence.
Security has been beefed up across the length and breadth of the State in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s visit tomorrow.
