Arrest warrant issued against Hojai BJP MLA

HAILAKANDI, June 20 - The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Karimganj today issued an arrest warrant against Hojai BJP MLA Shiladitya Deb and asked the police to bring him here on July 23 next.

A former Congress leader of Karimganj Junaid Ahmed filed a case against Deb in the Karimganj CJM Court for passing communal comment regarding a particular community.

Atikul Bari Choudhury, the advocate who is pursuing the case, informed that several notices were sent to Deb for attending the court but he didn�t attend and never informed the court about the reasons behind his absence.

The advocate said Deb publicly gave a statement that 80 per cent of the Muslims are criminal and in another statement Deb said ULFA chief Paresh Baruah doesn�t have the courage to trigger a blast during Id festival.

Deb couldn�t be contacted over the phone for his reactions in this regard.

New building of fire and emergency services inaugurated: Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Political, inaugurated the new building of fire and emergency services at Katlicherra in Hailakandi district today.

The new building has been built by the PWD (Buildings) at a cost of over Rs 2.07 crore. The construction of the building commenced on July 10, 2015. The fire service station will attend to all fire calls and emergency situations in Katlicherra and adjoining areas.

In his inaugural address, Krishna said the government has been taking initiatives to modernise and strengthen the fire service stations across the State.

Underscoring the need for adopting fire safety measures to combat fires, Krishna urged the people to cooperate with the fire brigade personnel for timely action to minimise the loss of properties.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli urged the fire personnel for proper upkeep of the infrastructure and to consider it as their own asset. She thanked the Home department for sanctioning funds for the new infrastructure.

Special DGP (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, senior officials of the district administration and State Fire and Emergency Services were present at the function.

Earlier on Wednesday night, the team held a closed-door meeting with the deputy commissioners and police supers of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts at the conference hall of DC�s office here.

The meeting mainly discussed the law and order situation in the valley. The Additional Chief Secretary asked the officials to remain vigilant after the release of NRC.

Earlier, they visited the Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj district and held a discussion with the top officials of the Border Security Force (BSF).
