Arrest of scribe attacker demanded

DHUBRI, Sept 23 - Various organisations and student bodies of the district as well as several journalists� associations of the State on Wednesday demanded immediate arrest of accused Subrata Sarkar for assaulting Dainik Asom correspondent of Gauripur, Arun Kumar Paul.

It�s worth mentioning here that the accused attacked Paul on September 13 night and the scribe sustained serious injuries. An FIR was also lodged in this regard under Section 447, 341, 294, 325, 307, 427 of the IPC. However, since then the accused, who is also an official of Assam Police Battalion, remained absconding and the police is still unable to apprehend him.

On Wednesday, the incident completed 10 days and various social organisations and student bodies of the district condemned the event.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri District Working Journalist Association and Udalguri District Working Journalist Association submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts on Tuesday. On Wednesday, South Salmara Mankachar Union of Working Journalist, Dibrugarh District Working Journalist Association, Jorhat District Working Journalist Association also submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts.
