Arrest of Laskars aides demanded

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 Public activist Prof Deven Dutta has questioned as to why the accomplices of Enamul Haque Laskar, alleged to be involved in the suicide of Mathur Chandra Nath, have not still been arrested.

In a statement, Prof Dutta said that the State Governments illogical defensive logic of not arresting Haque is that the latter being an MLA, there are certain formalities and technical difficulties standing in the way of immediately detaining or arresting him.

Prof Dutta said that even trying to forget by resorting to a willing suspension of disbelief for the time being and only for the sake of argument, the fact of the arrest and due prosecution of Gopal Kanda who was not merely a MLA but was a minister too of the Haryana Government whose name was mentioned by the late Geetika Sharma in her suicide note, one may well ask as to why none of the others who were named as accomplices of Haque Laskar in the suicide note of Mathur Chandra Nath has still been arrested.

Is it not the dread of skeletons tumbling out of the cupboard the real reason behind the cold feet of the Majesty of the Law? As for our policemen, are not their jobs and the verbal orders of their political bosses dearer than their professional duties and their motherland? Prof Dutta asked.
