Army organises tour for Dima Hasao students

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 � Aimed at showcasing the vastness, richness and �unity in diversity� of the nation before the children from insurgency-affected areas of the Dima Hasao district of Assam, the 3 Mahar Regiment under the aegis of the Red Shield Division organised a national integration tour recently, a press release stated.

Brig Ashim Kohli, commander, Haflong brigade, flagged off the tour to Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune. A total of 20 students and two teachers from different schools of Dima Hasao district participated in the tour.

The tour was conducted under the Indian Army-sponsored �Operation Sadbhavana.� During the visit, the children interacted with the Eastern Army Commander at Kolkata and spoke about their areas and tribal values. The Army Commander, in turn, presented gifts to the children as tokens of encouragement. Children got the opportunity to visit the National Defence Academy at Pune, interacted with the students of the Hyderabad Public School, visited the Hi-Tech city in Hyderabad and the planetorium at Kolkata.

On the culmination of the tour, an interaction programme with the children was organised by the civil administration at Narangi. Commissioner and Secretary (Home and Political), Assam Government, represented the civil administration and spoke to the children about the importance of education, peace and development. Children shared their experiences and thanked the Army for organising such a event.

The national integration motivational tour was aimed at bringing awareness among the young generation of Dima Hasao about the development and progress achieved by the nation in order to ignite their minds to set higher goals in life. It will keep them motivated to be in the mainstream for the development and prosperity of the State, the release added.
