IMPHAL, May 22 � GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Lt Gen MMS Rai, who arrived here on a day�s visit to Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhuri and 57 Mountain Division at Leimakhong, visited the Indo-Myanmar border areas on Thursday.
General Rai reviewed the operational preparedness of both the formations during his first official visit to the State, according to a press release issued by PRO Assam rifles.
PTI adds: A militant was killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel at Kambilong area in Tamenglong district early this morning, official sources said. Sources said that the militants opened fire at the Assam Rifles personnel when they were patrolling at Kambilong area.
The Assam Rifles personnel retaliated by firing and one militant was killed in the exchange of fire on the spot. One AK-47 rifle was recovered from the dead militant.
