ITANAGAR, Nov 4 Suspected militants today opened fire on an Army convoy near Tewai Camp, a remote area in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh, according to police.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm when the Army men were travelling in two trucks along the Longding-Kanubari road.

Longding Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kumar has said the militants fired around five rounds at the Army vehicles from a nearby jungle which prompted the Army men to retaliate.

The gunmen fled the spot by exploding an improvised explosive device apparently in a bid to thwart any army action. However, there was no report of any casualty from either side, the SP added. The area has been cordoned off by security forces and a search operation is going on, informed Kumar.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, he added.
