Army chief visits Manipur

IMPHAL, May 25 - In the aftermath of the insurgent attack on Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur�s Chandel district on Sunday in which one Junior Commissioned Officer and five soldiers were killed, Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh along with GOC Eastern Command, Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi visited battalion headquarters of 29 Assam Rifles at Joupi on Wednesday.

The Army chief was briefed on the incident and the measures undertaken to neutralise the insurgent group involved in the attack, Assam Rifles said in a press release.

Gen Daljit stressed on the need to further carry out relentless operations against the insurgents active in the region, the release said.

He also expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs and directed the officials to ensure all required support was extended to the families.

CorCom, a coordination committee of major militant groups in Manipur had claimed responsibility for the attack.
