Army adopts Dolpukhuri as model village

GUWAHATI, April 13 � The Gajraj Corps Operating Signal Regiment under the aegis of the Gajraj Corps has dedicated a community hall, an empowerment centre, a children�s park and the renovated village school to the villagers of Dolpukhuri Gaon in Nagaon district. The project was conceived and executed as �Adoption of village Dolpukhuri as model village� by the Gajraj Corps Operating Signal Regiment under the Operation Sadbhavana project of Gajraj Corps. This was stated in an Army press release here.

Chief signal officer (CSO) of Gajraj Corps Brig C Mani, in the presence of MLA Keshab Mahanta and other civil and military dignitaries and prominent citizens of Kaliabor, dedicated the facilities mentioned above to the villagers of Dolpukhuri. Speaking in the simple inauguration ceremony, Brig Mani expressed the hope that the renovated school and the newly-constructed children�s park would promote overall development of the children living in the village. The community hall will provide the necessary infrastructure for formal and informal social interaction among the villagers. The empowerment centre will motivate the villagers to come together and use their talent in making clothes, materials, handicraft items and other artefacts, which are in great demand outside. He also hoped that the earnings arising out of the sale of items would bring out a paradigm shift in the financial status of the families of Dolpukhuri village.

Keshab Mahanta, MLA, thanked the Army on behalf of the people of Dolpukhuri village and expressed the hope that such noble gestures would bring the Army and the people of Assam closer to one another and encourage them to become partners in the development of Assam.
