Arms peddler held in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, June 24 � Troops of 5 Assam Rifles, during a search operation, apprehended an arms peddler from Khumishe-B village under Suruhuto police station in Zunhebto district on June 20 and recovered one .22 rifle (Czech made) alongwith one magazine, one 12 bore rifles, 08 assorted live rounds and other warlike stores from .his possession, an Assam Rifles release today said.

The apprehended person has been identified as Khekato Chophy, son of Vitoi Chophy, of Atunakagho village under Zunheboto district. The individual was handed over to Suruhuto Police Station later.

In another incident, during routine search at a mobile vehicle Check Post of 37 Assam Rifles at Jharnapani near Dimapur, a large quantity of illegal liquor was recovered from four vehicles. Two Mahindra Boleros and two Maruti Gypsys were carrying 3561 bottles of illegal liquor from Dimapur towards Zuneheboto when the Assam Rifles troops intercepted them. After checking the vehicles, the AR personnel seized the illegal liquor. The drivers of the vehicles were apprehended and handed over to Excise Department, Dimapur alongwith the vehicles and recovered illegal liquor.
