Arms, ammo seized

MORIGAON, June 17 - Police and the Forest Protection Force jointly conducted an operation against poachers during the last 72 hours in and around Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon district and recovered 2 rifles, 1 DBBL gun, and several rounds of ammunition near the sanctuary.

According to Mridul Hazarika, Officer Incharge of Mayong Police Station, acting on a tip off, police and personnel of the Forest Protection Force of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary raided the house of a dreaded rhino poacher and recovered one 3.3 rifle and 10 bullets at Chidaguri village.

Further, based on intelligence inputs, police and members of the Forest Protection Force conducted another operation at Nekerahabi near Pobitora and recovered one rifle, one DBBL gun and 10 rounds of ammunition from the house of Anarul Islam.

In the same village, police recovered some antlers of wild deer from the house of Safikul Islam. Both the dreaded poachers, namely Anarul Islam and Safikul Islam, however, fled from their houses during the time of operation.
