Arms, ammo recovered

IMPHAL, Oct 10 - In a joint operation, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police personnel unearthed a large cache of weapons and warlike stores from Nambol Khathong area of Bishenpur on Friday, a press release issued here stated today.

�Based on a specific input regarding presence of an insurgent of a proscribed group in the area, a joint operation was launched,� stated the PRO, Assam Rifles (South), in the press release.

During the search operation, the team unearthed a large cache comprising one AK-56 rifle with magazines, two 9 mm pistols with magazines, one .32 inch pistol with magazines, five Lathode bombs, other ammunition and a hand-held radio set, the release said.

The recovered weapons, ammunition and warlike stores were handed over to the Nambol Police Station for further investigation and legal action.

On the other hand, Assam Rifles troops also launched an operation to apprehend insurgents sneaking in from across the Indo-Myanmar Border, the release added. On carrying out a thorough search of the area, a bag containing two country-made pistols along with seven rounds of ammunition and Myanmarese currency were recovered, the release stated.
