Arjuna awardee Renubala honoured

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 � Arjuna Award winning weightlifter Y Renubala Chanu was accorded a warm felicitation jointly by the Assam Weightlifting Association (AWA) and the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) here today.

Renubala won back-to-back gold medals in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, 2006 and New Delhi, 2010. Renubala also has five national records to her credit. Renubala, who hails from Manipur but represents Assam, is determined that she will be ready for the 2016 Rio Olympics. She thanked Bhabajyoti Goswami for his help in getting a job at NF Railway.

Renubala represented Assam in the 2007 Guwahati National Games and won four gold medals for the State with record.

Indian Weightlifting Federation president Birendra Prasad Baishya, who was also present in the function, elaborated about the talent of the weightlifter and hoped she will be inspiration for the State weightlifters.

IOA officials Anup Choudhury and Zeherul Islam were also present on the occasion.
