Arghya, Rituparna bag double crowns

GUWAHATI, June 24 - Arghya Das of West Bengal and Rituparna Choudhury of Odisha clinched double crown in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament which concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex , Chachal here today.

Sixth seed Arghya upset top seed Assam boy Sheikh Md Iftikhar who conceded after trailing 1-4 (30-0) for the boys U-16 crown and clinched the U-18 title with an upset victory against top seed Mingki Talom of Arunachal Pradesh 6-4, 7-5 to complete the double crown.

Odisha girl Rituparna Choudhury, second seed, won both the U-16 and U-18 titles prevailing over top seed Lenien Jamir of Assam 6-2, 6-0 and 7-5, 6-2 respectively.

Final results of singles: (Boys U-16) 2nd seed Kavan Somu Kumar (KA) bt top seed Sheikh Md Iftikhar (ASM) 4-1 (30-0) conceded. (Boys U-18) 6th seed Arghya Das (WB) upset top seed Mingki Talom (AR) 6-4, 7-5. (Girls U-16) 2nd seed Rituparna Choudhury (ODR) upset top seed Lenien Jamir (ASM) 6-2, 6-0. (Girls U-18) 2nd seed Rituparna Choudhury (ODR) upset top seed Lenien Jamir (ASM) 7-5, 6-2.
