GUWAHATI, Aug 23 Assam Real Estate and Infrastructure Developers Association (AREIDA) president Pranab Kumar Sarma has made an appeal to the authorities concerned to finalise and notify the new building bye-laws of the city expeditiously for the greater interest of the common Guwahatians.

Sarma has recently been inducted to the committee constituted by the State Government to study the new building bye-laws of the city and also the delineation of the Guwahati Metropolitan Area.

In a letter to the Member Convenor of the Committee, Sarma has pleaded that expeditious finalization and notification of the citys new building bye-laws have become urgent for most of the Guwahatians, who do not have the capacity to build their own houses and are hence dependent on hiring or buying residential flats.

Building permission has been kept in abeyance in the city since June 10, 2012. This has affected the livelihood of lakhs of people, stunted economic growth, hampered government revenue, created an artificial scarcity in the housing sector, rendered many flourishing enterprises sick and affected as many as 250 allied industries, Sarma said in his letter.

He argued that it has, therefore, become urgently necessary to finalise and notify the new building bye-laws of the city without any further delay.
