Arabinda Rajkhowa granted bail

GUWAHATI, Dec 30 � The Tada Court, Guwahati today granted bail to Arabinda Rajkhowa, chairman of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), in connection with all the six TADA cases registered against him.

The ULFA chief was allowed to go against a bail amount of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties of the like amount.

While Rajkhowa was represented by advocate Bijon Mahajan, advocate Arshad Choudhury, advocate Pranab Kumar Das and advocate Nayan Jyoti Das in the Court, Special Public Prosecutor K Munir was the counsel for the State Government.

It needs mention here that the state Government had filed an affidavit with the Court stating that it has no objection if the ULFA leader is granted bail in view of the peace talks.

The TADA granted the bail on condition that the accused shall not leave the country till the case is disposed of and must also deposit his passport, if any, to the TADA Court.

The Court order also mentioned that the accused shall not move outside the State without the prior consent of the local police station.

�He shall not commit any offence or misuse his liberty in any way. Moreover, he shall not hamper or tamper with the evidence or threaten anyone while on bail,� the Court order stated. Rajkhowa is likely to be released the day after the bail bonds in all the six TADA cases are deposited.

The outfit�s �vice-chairman� Pradeep Gogoi, �publicity secretary� Mithinga Daimary, �deputy commander-in-chief� Raju Baruah, �political adviser� Bhimkanta Buragohain, and �cultural secretary� Pranati Deka have already been released on bail.

Moreover, the bail petitions of ULFA �foreign secretary� Sasha Choudhury and �finance secretary� Chitraban Hazarika have also been moved in the Court.
