AR JCO killed in NDFB (S) attack

TEZPUR, Jan 4 � One JCO of 12 Assam Rifles died in an encounter with the National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit faction) on Friday evening at Seijosa near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

According to official sources, a group of NDFB (S) militants, 12 in number, from Seijosa near the Pakke Reserve Forest area, came face to face with the security forces and started firing, resulting in serious bullet injury to one JCO of the 12 Assam Rifles. The JCO, Ramesh Pratap Singh, who was rushed to the 155 Army base hospital, Tezpur breathed his last in the hospital.

Col Rohit Pratap Sing Thakur, Commanding Officer of the 12 Assam Rifles HQ at Lokra, talking to this correspondent here over telephone said, �The JCO, Ramesh Pratap Singh, hailed from Uttarakhand. He was the security commander of my battalion and he was in the operation in the Seijosa area against the NDFB militants, when our team had to face a fierce attack from the militant�s side. The incident took place at around 6.30 pm and it lasted for about an hour.� Seijosa is about 100 km from Tezpur in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh and the area where the encounter took place is about 15 km from Inner Line check post of Seijosa, bordering Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
