APW lodges FIR against Prateek Hajela

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 - Voluntary organisation Assam Public Works (APW) has lodged a first information report (FIR) with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State against former State Coordinator of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Prateek Hajela.

In the FIR, APW alleged that the former NRC Coordinator had tampered with the final NRC list, defied the August 13, 2019 order of the Supreme Court of India in matters of updating the NRC, made false documents and committed offences under the cyber laws of the country for tampering with public records by misusing his powers and position, among other things.

The organisation also alleged in the FIR that despite the August 13, 2019 Supreme Court order to formulate a security regime of equal parameter as that provided for securing AADHAR data before publishing the final NRC so that no one can perform illegal activities after its final publication, Hajela altered the NRC data.

To drive home its point, APW cited the examples of two ARN numbers 401830402026159800460 and 101830402030162301199 respectively of Miraj @Miru Ali and his two children Muskan Begum and Shail Ali; and of Jubeda Begum, Md Jahar Ali and Sahida Begum and entered their names in the final NRC. This was done by changing their status from reject to accept.

The voluntary organisation has urged the CID to register a case against Hajela for committing such offences.
