GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - Voluntary organisation Assam Public Works (APW), which is an applicant in the Supreme Court case on the updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), has lodged an FIR against three persons with the Geetanagar Police Station here alleging that they had fraudulently got their names enlisted in the NRC. These persons were declared foreign nationals by the Foreigners Tribunal (FT) No 3, Morigaon in June, 2016.
The FT No 3, Morigaon, said in its order dated June 13, 2016 in Case No 232/2009 dated 21.07.2009, that Jubeda Begum (45), daughter of Dil Mohammad, along with her sons Giasuddin Ahmed and Md Jahar Ali, daughter Sahida Begum of village Pub Mikirbheta, under Mikirbheta Police Station of Morigaon district, illegally entered India (Assam) after March 25, 1971.
Jubeda could not produce any documents in support of her being an Indian citizen at the time of verification.
The FT No 3, Morigaon declared ex-parte, Jubeda Begum and her sons Giasuddin Ahmed and Md Jahar Ali and daughter Sahida Begum foreigners under Section 2 (a) of the Foreigners Act, 1946. The FT also directed that their names be also deleted from any government beneficial scheme, family ration card, voter ID card, driving licence, etc., and that all such documents under their possession be confiscated.
The APW has requested the Geetanagar PS to register a case and institute an investigation as to how Jubeda and her children could get their names included in the NRC, who were the officials involved and whether any money changed hands in this case.
