GUWAHATI, June 20 - Voluntary organisation Assam Public Works (APW) today flayed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is also holding the Home portfolio, for his silence over the issue of renewed subversive activities of the Paresh Barua-led militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) in the Upper Assam areas.
In a statement here, the APW called for firm and expeditious steps to bring an end to the terror unleashed by the ULFA-I in the State and also to bring the ongoing peace negotiation between the pro-talk ULFA and the government to a logical conclusion.
The organisation alleged that the ULFA-I has been working against the ongoing process of negotiation between the pro-talk ULFA and the government. The banned outfit is also maintaining a double standard in matters of death of police official Bhaskar Kalita. While Paresh Barua claimed that the police official was killed in an encounter with the ULFA-I armed cadres, some of his cadres, in a video recently uploaded to the outfit�s Facebook account, claimed that the police official was killed in a planned manner.
The ULFA-I has also kept a poor tea garden employee captive and it is demanding a ransom of Rs 3.5 crore for his release, the APW alleged.
