By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 1 - Five more Assam Police Service (APS) officers arrested in connection with the cash-for-jobs-scam were sacked by the State Government today even as Pallabi Sharma, another accused APS officer and daughter of BJP MP RP Sharma, was today granted interim bail by the Gauhati High Court.

She is the first arrested officer among those, who allegedly secured their jobs through fraudulent means, to have secured bail in the cash-for-jobs scam in the Assam Public Service Commission.

Those discharged from the service include Sabira Imran, Jayanta Kumar Nath, Hemanta Saikia, Jatindra Prasad Barua and Harshajyoti Bora. The State Government had earlier discharged 12 other ACS and APS officers from their service.

Pallabi Sharma, meanwhile, was granted interim bail keeping in view the health condition of her MP father who is undergoing treatment in Kolkata. A lady Assam Police official will be attached to the arrested APS officer during the bail period.

In another significant development, advocate BK Mahajan has been relieved of the responsibility as the special public prosecutor in the cash-for-jobs scam. Mahajan on Tuesday wrote to the Home Department, expressing his unwillingness to continue as the special public prosecutor in the case.

Mahajan had tendered his resignation, stating that he had not been able to devote adequate time to the high-profile case due to his other professional commitments.

Meanwhile, the Home Department has appointed advocate Partha Pratim Baruah as the new special public prosecutor in the case.
