APSC move to upgrade qualification for MVI post opposed

By City correspondent

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - Opposing the move to make BE or B Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering eligible for the post of Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), the All Assam Mechanical Engineering (Automobile) Students Union said that the Assam Public Service Commission has violated rules by making BE and B Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering eligible for the post of MVI.

On October 13, an advertisement was published by the APSC for the post of MVI under the Commissionerate of Transport, Assam. In that advertisement, the educational qualification mentioned for MVI was HSSLC with 3 years diploma in mechanical or automobile engineering and the age for post was 21 years for general category.

On November 12, a new notification was published regarding educational qualification mentioning that HSLC or HSSLC with three years diploma in mechanical or automobile engineering and BE or B Tech in mechanical or automobile engineering from a recognised institute of Assam or India and also duly recognised by AICTE is also eligible for the post of MVI, Nayan Kakoti, a member of the students union said.

According to the gazette notification of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, the qualification for the post of MVI is HSLC with three years diploma in mechanical or automobile engineering and not HSSLC and BE or B Tech in mechanical or automobile engineering, he added.

It is not justifiable for a BE or B Tech holder to stake claim for the job since graduate engineers have a separate category of jobs. So, we urge the concerned authority to look into this matter again, Kakoti further said.

According to the new notification, the closing date of online form submission is now extended to December 9.
