GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - Police today arrested another member of Assam Public Service Commission, Dr Basanta Kumar Doley, making him the sixth person to be arrested in the high profile cash-for-job scam.
Sources said Doley was called by police for questioning this morning. He was arrested later in the day.
There are statements of co-accused and other witnesses against him, police sources said.
Asked if the mysterious burning of documents by Doley and his staff at the APSC office a few days back has anything to do with the arrest, the sources said, there is a point there as well.
On the evening of November 6, Doley and his staff had burnt bundles of documents at the APSC office premises on the pretext of driving away mosquitoes.
The arrested APSC member will be produced before a court tomorrow.
Meanwhile, co-accused Pabitra Kaibartta, assistant examination controller of APSC, was produced before the CJM Court today. Police said he has sought two/three days time from the court to give a confessional statement.
