GUWAHATI, April 24 - A major eviction drive was today carried out in the Fancy Bazar area of the city, during which over 50 vendors were removed.
The drive targeted vendors who had illegally occupied public space, including footpaths, at SB Road, SRCB Road, MS Road and also the GMC Market.
Officials from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), City Police and the PWD were engaged in the anti-encroachment drive.
Speaking to The Assam Tribune, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu said that the vendors were illegally using space and creating nuisance at many places, including near the statue of Lachit Borphukan.
