Appointment of non-medical staff to Health dept top posts opposed

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 29 - An emergency central office-bearer meeting of Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) was held recently to discuss the appointment of non-medical and non-health person in the Directorate of Health Service, Assam, and Directorate of Health Service (Family Welfare), Assam, stated a press release.

After a threadbare discussion regarding the posting of a non-medical person as Director of Health Service (FW) and the posting of a non-medical person as Additional Director (Administration) of Health Service with additional charge of Additional Director (Administration) of Health Service (Family Welfare) vide govt notification no. HLB 578/2011/Pt-I/30, the AMSA felt that the postings violate the Assam Health Service rules.

The central executive committee of Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) vehemently opposed the appointment of an officer from non-health cadre in the post of Director of Health Services (FW) and urged the government to select/post officers from Assam Health Service cadre either from the rank of Additional DHS or permanent DHS by APSC selection process.

The appointment of Additional Director (Administration) of Health Services with additional charge of Additional Director (administration) of Health Service (FW) was also opposed in the meeting.

In protest against the decision of the government, the AMSA members have resolved to wear black badges across Assam on November 3 and submit memorandums to the Health Commissioner by the district units through the respective Deputy Commissioners.
