Appointment letters distributed among differently-abled persons

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today distributed appointment letters among a total of 248 Divyangjans (differently-abled persons) who have been recruited in grade III posts in various State Government departments, in a programme held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here. The appointment letter distribution programme was organised by the Social Welfare department.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said the Divyangjans are an essential part of the society and the State Government is fully committed to their well being. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed all the State Governments to take special measures for the welfare of the Divyangjans. The Assam Government has already launched Deendayal Divyang Sahajya Achoni under which 1.51 lakh differently-abled persons were provided Rs 5,000 one time financial assistance last year. Presently, all the Divyangjans are being provided Rs 1,000 each per month, he added.

Coinciding the programme, the Chief Minister distributed unique identity cards among the differently-abled persons and smartphones among the ICDS workers, apart from launching a website of the department.

Sonowal also presented awards to several districts for successfully implementing activities related to POSHAN Maah, which was celebrated throughout the country in September. While Darrang, Hailakandi and Udalguri districts received two awards each, Dibrugarh, Biswanath, Cachar, Dhubri, Bongaigaon and Goalpara districts received one award each.
