By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - The APPL Foundation, the CSR wing of Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited, has expressed its deep shock at the gruesome murder of Dr Deben Dutta, whose professional career in the tea estates spanned 46 years.

The APPL Foundation condemns this act and demands of the government to lay out fast-track courts for exemplary punishment to all the guilty, which will restore the confidence of the medical professionals and other NGOs working toward the uplift of this community, Dhiraj Kakati, managing trustee, APPL Foundation, said in a statement.

It also termed as astounding that unions, student bodies and community leaders have not yet come forward to condemn this dreadful incident and show the path of solidarity with the medical community and management.

Stating that the APPL Foundation had been supporting the improvement in quality of life of tea workers through a number of medical interventions like E-Hospitals, Fungal Free Frocks (for prevention of Fungal Infections), Menstrual Hygiene Programme, Nutrition Supplementation to Pregnant and Lactating Mothers, Adult Learning Programme, etc., in the estates of APPL besides setting up two skill development centres in Rowta and Chabua, it said, We are appalled that the beneficiaries of these initiatives has taken the law on to themselves and are alarmed that the multiple social activities have failed to make an impact on the perceptions of the people.
