Appeal to minimise manpower constraint

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 21 Noted economist Dr Jayant Madhab today said that there is dire need to focus on skill formation through technical and vocational training to minimize the constraint of usable manpower, the industry is facing in the current scenario.

The quality of human resource in Assam or for that matter in the North-east is mostly unusable or non-productive unlike other developed countries where skill formation is given utmost importance, Dr Madhab said while speaking during the annual session of the Assam chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Dr Madhab was today honoured at the concluding session of the annual general meeting of the CII at NEDFi house in recognition of his excellence in the social and economic sector of the State.

I have seen how various other countries and States have progressed by dint of their skilled manpower. There are also flaws in our education system in the State which needs to be mended to enable the State to catch up with the best, Dr Madhab pointed out, while speaking on the topic Skill Imperatives for the North-east.

Earlier, Dr Bhupati K Das, who would now be replaced by Dipak Chakravarty as the chairman, CII Assam State Council, said, It has been a privilege to lead the CII for three years and work for the development of the State and hope that the confederation would continue to serve the interest of the State.

Dr Das also opined that people of the State must change their mindset and transform the negative aspects into positive ones.

Dipak Chakravarty, chairman designate, CII Assam State Council and managing director Numaligarh Refinery Ltd also spoke on the occasion.
