Appeal for safe release of SBI manager

GUWAHATI, March 2 � Officers and employees of the State Bank of India under the banners of SBI Officers� Association (NE Circle) and SBI Staff Association (NE Circle), expressed grave concerns over the whereabouts of VK Gupta, assistant general manager, SBI, who was abducted on February 23 this year and urged for his immediate safe release.

Gupta, who worked with the Inspection and Audit Department, Zonal Inspection Office, Bhubaneswar, remains untraced after being abducted by armed miscreants while travelling back from Mendipathar in Garo Hills district of Meghalaya to his camp at Goalpara, at around 7.30 pm.

The officiating branch manager of SBI Mendipathar, who was accompanying Gupta, was also badly assaulted by the miscreants but escaped abduction.

The banking fraternity of this region in a letter to the Chief Secretary of Assam, urged upon him to ensure safe release of Gupta without any loss of time and provide adequate security to all sections of bank employees serving in vulnerable places for instilling confidence amongst the rank and file of the banking sector and continuance of uninterrupted banking services in the State.
