GUWAHATI, Aug 17 � An all party meeting convened by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi here today condemned the recent incidents of violence in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri districts of the State and expressed its deep anguish and sorrow at the killing of innocent persons.

The meeting also unanimously resolved to collectively take effective steps for speedy return of normalcy and social harmony in the affected areas and emphasised upon early rehabilitation of the displaced families. Moreover, it took note of the efforts made by the State and the Central Governments to contain violence and provide relief to the affected families, including civil society and other organisations, said an official press release here.

It further appealed to people living outside the region not to panic on account of rumours. It appealed to all those who have already come back to return to their usual place of work or study. All the states including Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have assured full protection to persons hailing from the Northeastern region in their respective states.

The meeting attended by the representatives of the Indian National Congress, All India United Democratic Front, Bharatiya Janata Party, Asom Gana Parishad, Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Bodoland People�s Front, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Socialist Unity Centre of India, made an appeal to all sections of society to maintain peace and communal harmony and take proactive measures for confidence building to restore complete normalcy.
