By Correspondent

SHILLONG, July 15 - As part of its 111 years of existence, the Shillong Muslim Union inaugurated a library named after APJ Abdul Kalam at the Madina Masjid here today.

Inaugurating the library Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma congratulated SMU for creating the facility and said it would be dedicated for those seeking knowledge and wisdom.

He added that such a centre is a privilege for the knowledge seekers and very befitting tribute to APJ Abdul Kalam.

The library currently has about 10,000 books on Islam and also other religions. It will also be a centre of information for Islamic theology.

We want the library to be a place of comparative study of religions. So we have books on other religions, apart from Islam and anyone can be part of the library, Sayedullah Nongrum, general secretary, SMU, said.

Nongrum informed that it was decided to name the library after the former president because Kalam was fond of reading and writing. He was also the peoples President and a kind-hearted person, he added.
