APDCL�s casual employee gets electrocuted on pole at Biswanath

BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 26 - In a bizarre incident, a casual employee under Chariali ESD of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Rabin Das died after his head got separated from his body on being electrocuted while carrying out repair works on an electric pole in the heart of the Biswanath Chariali town in Biswanath district around 11 am today in front of a helpless crowd.

According to information, while the Power department employee was carrying out repair works on an 11 KV power line, power supply was suddenly restored and he got electrocuted. His body caught fire and head got separated from his body and ripped off. Getting agitated over the incident, local people gheraoed the Chariali ESD office and demanded stern action against the guilty APDCL personnel. However, the police managed to pacify the mob. People have blamed the callous attitude of the APDCL for Das�s tragic death.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, Pabitra Ram Khaund announced a magisterial enquiry this evening in a hurriedly called meeting with senior officials and the representatives of local social organisations and Senior Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Diganta Baishya was entrusted the job. He was also instructed to submit his report within one week. On the other hand, the APDCL has also initiated a departmental enquiry and two of its employees have been put under suspension. The meeting was also attended by Ranjana Sharma, CEO, Tezpur Circle of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) and she handed over a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to Kalia Das, father of the deceased employee, Rabin Das in the meeting.

CM expresses grief: Taking strong exception to the electrocution incident at Biswanath district which led to the death of one Rabin Das, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the incident and directed the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to rectify the shortcomings to avert recurrence of such incidents in the future, an official press release stated this evening.

In a statement here this evening, Sonowal while expressing grief and condoling the death of Das, asked the APDCL authority and the district administration to institute an inquiry to find out the sequel of events leading to the tragic death of the person and asked the APDCL to take strict action against such incidents. He also conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul. He also announced Rs 2 lakh from his relief fund as an immediate relief to the family.
