APCS officers body protests assaults, threatens to defy poll duties

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, April 13 - Registering their strong protest over the incidents of assaults and damage to property of APCS officers engaged in election duty during the recently held simultaneous Assembly and Parliamentary polls, the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Officers Association (APCSOA) on Saturday urged the State Government and CEO to immediately book the accused persons involved in the attacks.

Failing this, they threatened to defy the election duties ahead in remaining stages of poll process.

The officers body narrated the incidents of assaults on APCS officers: physical attack on CO Phassang under ADC/RO Nyapin on April 5, SDO Sangram under RO Nyapin on midnight of April 11, SDO Daporijo and designated RO of Nacho Assembly constituency and threats to and abuse of the family members of RO Nyapin on midnight of April 11 at the quarter of ADC when the latter was away on duty.

The APCS officers body urged the State Government and the CEO to act swiftly by issuing strict instructions to the concerned agency to book all the persons involved in the attacks of APCS officers. Further, all the material losses should be sufficiently compensated, it demanded.

While alleging that despite repeated submission of memorandum and representations to provide sufficient security the State authorities never took its request seriously because of which such unpleasant incidents took place, the APCSOA apprised the State authorities and CEO that if no tangible action is taken against the assaulters and also sufficient security personnel is not deployed in remaining stages of election process, we may defy the election duties ahead.
