APCC team visits Baghjan

DOOMDOOMA, June 3 - A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) comprising former ministers Rokibul Hussain and Pranati Phukan, Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij, former MLAs Sushanta Burhagohain and Raju Sahu and several others visited Baghjan on Tuesday afternoon and took stock of the situation due to the gas well blowout from �BGR-5� of Baghjan Oilfield of Oil India Limited (OIL). The APCC delegation visited the relief camps and interacted with the local people. The delegation also distributed some food items and masks among the inmates of the relief camps.

The Baghjan Gaon Milanjyoti Yuva Sangha submitted a memorandum to the APCC delegation. Receiving the memorandum , the leader of the delegation Rokibul Hussain said that they would raise the issues mentioned in the memorandum in the State Assembly and would discuss with the OIL authority.

Later, talking to the local scribes, Rokibul Hussain demanded that the OIL authority must fix the blowout immediately. He also demanded that the OIL give adequate compensation to the affected people of the area.

The Congress leader also expressed his serious concern over the death of river dolphin, fishes and tortoises in the Maguri-Motapung beel which is situated at a close proximity to the Baghjan oilfield.
