GUWAHATI, June 8 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today described the reported statement of Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma that the Opposition is involved in the incidents of rhino poaching as unfortunate.
Though an inference could be drawn from the statement of the Forest Minister that the Opposition was involved in the cases of rhino poaching during the rule of the Congress Government too in the State to defame the Government, the APCC declines to do that, said APCC vice president Debabrata Saikia in a statement. Saikia is also the leader of the Assam Congress Legislature Party (ACLP).
The APCC condemns the cases of rhino poaching and appeals to all concerned not to indulge in the game of mud-slinging in this respect, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his addresses in the election rallies held prior to the Assembly elections of the State, had appealed to vote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies to power to check rhino poaching. But the Central Government led by him never bothered to extend help to the Congress-led State Government in checking rhino poaching, Saikia said.
He made an appeal to the BJP-led State Government to take firm steps against the criminals involved in cases of rhino poaching.
