GUWAHATI, June 21 In a significant development, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has decided to stagedharnas at 11 amofJune 23at all the district headquarters of the State in protest against the comment of Governor PB Acharya at a Silchar public meeting yesterday. The Governor had said in that meeting that the Congress has left the Mughals and the Britishers far behind in looting the country.

The APCC has alleged that with such a comment, Governor Acharya has lowered the status of the gubernatorial post. It also alleged that the Governor has been working as a political agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Congress members would stagedharnaonJune 23to register their protest against the above comment of the Governor and his activities as a political agent of the BJP. The party members would send memorandums to the President of India, through their respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs), on that day, said the APCC in a press release here.

It has also demanded immediate removal of Union Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her alleged involvement in the matter of tainted former IPL chief Lalit Modis passport.

APCC vice-president Ripun Bora has threatened in a separate statement that soon the Pradesh Congress Committee would come up with a report on the misdeeds of the Governor, who has nominated several outsiders and RSS members to the Dibrugarh University court and executive council in a bid to saffronise the education system of the State. The Governor has misused his post as the Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University, Bora alleged.
