APCC flays Govt over Chinese dams

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 18 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today said that without holding discussions with China on the flow of the Brahmaputra and preventing the neighbouring country from undertaking its hydel projects on the river in the Tibetan region, all efforts to control the Brahmaputra are bound to fail.

APCC vice president Ripun Bora also resented that the present government at the Centre has not paid any heed to the demand of the States people to hold discussion with the Chinese authorities on the issue of the hydel projects the latter have proposed on the Chinese part of the mighty river.

The present State government has also not taken up the issue with the Central government seriously. This gives rise to the doubt that the latest announcement of the State government that it would control the Brahmaputra in line with the Hoang Ho, may become a gimmick, said Bora.
