GUWAHATI, July 20 - The BJP Government at the Centre is trying to confiscate the precious agricultural land of poor farmers and transfer the land to big capitalists, thus depriving the poor farmers of their livelihood and land, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today said in a statement.
Accusing the BJP-led NDA Government of undermining the interests of the farming community, the APCC said that the Centres heartless act had already resulted in a number of suicides by poor farmers, but the Government was content in looking the other way.
The Modi Government and BJP president Amit Shah are bringing about total misery to the farmers throughout the country. The Central Government should have drawn up a plan for upgrading the rural economy, but this is not so. Their plan is to grab the land of farmers and hand it over to the big capitalists, the APCC said.
Hitting out at the Centre over the Land Acquisition Bill, the APCC termed it as the biggest lie that non-availability of land was impeding the undertaking of major projects.
The Government is linking land to its Make in India programme. The single-biggest impediment for the Make in India campaign is the Land Bill. In other words, the Modi Governments clear message to the youths, farmers and labourers is let us take away your land from you and in return we will give you jobs. This is the biggest lie being told to the youths, farmers and labourers of the country, the APCC said.
Pointing out that during the last Lok Sabha elections, Modi, in his campaign meetings, had stated that what the Congress could not do in 60 years, the BJP would get it done in just 60 months, the APCC said that the agenda of the BJP was only about launching propaganda and generating false promises.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added colour to his dreams, which he is marketing to the public. His much-hyped acche din is just a myth and his dreams will remain dreams only. No tangible progress has been achieved in any sector of the economy and all assurances have turned out to be nothing but just sweet language. He is a dream merchant as he is selling dreams in India and abroad, it said.
