APCC asks workers to help govt

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Aug 29 The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has directed all its affiliated bodies and party workers to actively cooperate with the government in implementing programmes and projects of the State government.

In a resolution passed during its mandalik abhivartan here yesterday, the convention resolved to ensure that promises made in the manifesto during the last assembly elections were fulfilled.

The APCC team, led by its president Bhubaneshwar Kalita and general secretary Haren Das, called upon the leaders of its various wings and grass root workers to help the government machinery in implementation and completion of all programmes of the State government.

Addressing media persons after the conclusion of the convention, Das said that the convention was an exercise to revitalize the organisation.

After every election, party workers tend to relax and are inactive. Communications and interactions with the leaders also remains almost suspended during this period. Conventions will fill the vacuum that is normally created after every poll and simultaneously keep our party strength intact, Das stated.

The APCC leader also said that the people of the State have high expectations from the Congress and therefore gave their mandate to the party in the recent Assembly elections. We therefore have to meet the expectations of the people. Our party will also try to fulfill all the promises made during the elections. We have been instructing all our workers to ensure that government programmes were implemented in respective areas, Das said, adding that it was also an occasion for the party to prepare for forthcoming panchayat polls.

Speaking on the Jan Lokpal issue, Das stated that the fourth estate played an instructive and educative role during the fast period of Gandhian Anna Hazare. He acknowledged that arrest of Anna was wrong. It was indeed a human error, the APCC leader said.
