APBn jawan held for �extortion�

NALBARI, June 1 - Nalbari police on Sunday arrested police constable Saifuddin Ahmed of Borgaon village near Ghograpar in Nalbari district on charge of extortion.

The police constable of 4th APBn of Kahilipara was arrested following an FIR lodged by businessman Ainuddin Ahmed of Dhomdhoma. The APBn jawan who was entrusted the duty of Assam Police�s �Dial100� allegedly called and demanded Rs 1 lakh from the businessman.

The constable allegedly introduced himself as a CID officer and also threatened the businessman that if he doesn�t fulfil the demand, he would hand over a case to Nalbri Police Station for registration.

Following this, the businessman filed a case at Ghograpar Police Station (Case No-239/20) under Section 419/387 of the IPC.

The police laid a trap and arrested the APBn jawan on Sunday morning when he came to collect the extorted money from the businessman. The mobile number from where he called up the businessman has also been recovered from his possession.
