AP Blues clinch ID Cup opening match

NAGAON, Sept 14 � Assam Police Blues of Guwahati won the inaugural match of the 66th Independence Day Cup Football Tournament.

At the Nurul Amin Stadium here today, the Guwahati outfit defeated local league champions Radial Club by a clear margin of 2-0 goals.

Luhit Tye and Sanjoy Rabha netted one goal each for the winning team in the 32nd and 90 th minutes respectively.

Veteran sports organizer and journalist Rajen Borkakati formally inaugurated the tournament. Former vice president of Nagaon Sports Association (NSA), Alimuz Zaman, retired football referee Monoranjan Dutta, secretary of Assam football Association Ankur Dutta, president of NSA Minister Rockybul Hussain along with a host of sportspersons were present in the inaugural function.

Today�s match: Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India vs 9th AP Battalion.

Umakanta Trophy begins: Uma Kanta Saikia memorial football tournament, covering Nagaon and Marigaon districts also started from today.

In the inaugural match Suruj Uday Yubak Sangha, Senchuwa defeated Dakarghat Junior Club 5-3 in tie breaker after the match was ended in a 1-1 draw.

Pitu Das of Dakarghat scored the first goal in 15th minutes and Vikash Das of Senchuwa equalized in 57th minutes

The tournament was formally inaugurated by sports lover Samir Hazarika.

The tournament is organized by Senchuwa Anchalik Sports Association at the Amar Borkakati High School field.
