Anuranan upsets top seed

GUWAHATI, Nov 2 � It will be all Assam finals in the fifth U-12 India Club AITA Championship Series.

The semifinals played today at the India Club courts here witnessed a major upset as seventh seed Anuranan Choudhury (Assam) defeated top seed and State mate Kirtanta Sarma in straight sets in the boys section. In the other semifinals, second seed Anurag Buragohain of Assam had an easy outing against Gogoi also from Assam. In the girls singles top seed Ishika Chakma (Assam) beat N Charmie (Manipur), while in the second semifinal second seed Kristi Boro (Assam) prevailed over Areena Phukan (Assam). All the finals will be played tomorrow from 2 pm, stated tournament director Gaurav Chowdhury. Bedanta Buragohain is the chief referee in the championship.

Results: (Boys U-12 singles semifinal) Anuranan Choudhury (Assam) bt Kiirtanta Sarma (Assam) 7-5,6-3, Anurag Buragohain (Assam) bt Udit Gogoi (Assam) 6-3, 6-3. (Girls U-12 singles semifinal) Ishika Chakma (Assam) bt N Charmie (Manipur) 4-1, 4-2, Kristi Boro (Assam) bt Areena Phukan (Assam) 4-3, 4-2.
