Anup Chetia handover soon, says Bangla envoy

By The Assam Tribune

SHILLONG, Feb 10 Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq Ahmed Karim has indicated that Anup Chetia, general secretary of the banned ULFA, under detention in his country after serving a jail term, would be handed over to India soon, reports PTI.

Its happening. You will know when you get him, Karim told PTI on being asked when the wanted ULFA leader would be handed over.

Though the Bangladesh envoy refused to divulge much, he said, The Indian Prime Minister and Home Minister are happy with the way the cooperation is going on. We cannot divulge all details. Sometimes it may create a problem, he said.

Dhaka had earlier facilitated the arrest and handing over of five top leaders of the banned outfit including its chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa.

Besides Rajkhowa, ULFA deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah, self-styled foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury and finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika, are in jail in Assam after they were shown as arrested by Indian authorities last December last.

On Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasinas recent visit to India, Karim said the two countries had now entered into a new relationship of friendship, cooperation and development.

We have resolved to cooperate against terrorism. We do not want to harbour any elements which are against the interest of both the countries and our actions have demonstrated it, he said.
