By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - ULFA leader Anup Chetia was today allowed to go on bail by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge (3) in connection with the Session Case number 6/2013 corresponding to the Special Operation Unit case number 1/1995.

Charges were also framed against the ULFA general secretary under section 120(B)/121(A)/122/121 of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The court today passed the bail order after advocate Bijon Kumar Mahajan, the counsel for Chetia, pleaded before the court to facilitate the release of the accused in the interest of the ongoing peace talks involving the Union Government, State Government and the ULFA.

It was also contended by Chetias counsel that as the case is already chargesheeted and trial has also begun, detention of the accused will not help the cause of the investigation in any manner.

The court also took note of the affidavit (no objection) filed by the State Government counsel H Deka before allowing bail against a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh with sureties of the like amount.

Meanwhile, the bail application in connection with the case registered with the CBI will come up for its final disposal tomorrow.
