Anundoram Barooah awards presentation in Dec

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 18 The Assam Government will present the Anundoram Barooah awards to the students who passed the High School Leaving Certificate Examination this year in first and second divisions, in December. This was disclosed by Minister in charge of Education, Pradyut Bordoloi.

Bordoloi told The Assam Tribune that the presentation of the awards was delayed because of some technical problems. He said that last year, the awards were presented in November, but this year, the awards would be presented next month.

The Minister pointed out that this year, the States Budget was passed only in August because of the Lok Sabha polls and that delayed the whole process. He said that though provisions were made in the Budget for the awards, when the process started, it was found that more money would be required and additional provisions were made accordingly. He said that an amount of around Rs 140 crore would be required for purchasing computers for the awards.

The Government initially started presenting computers to those who passed the HSLC examinations in the first division and from last year onwards, those who passed in second division were also given the award.
