Anti-erosion work along Dikrong river demanded

NARAYANPUR, March 14 � Early work on protection of the Dikrong bund has been demanded by the citizens of Bihpuria Town Committee.

A meeting in this connection was held recently under the chairmanship of Deben Lekharu at Joga Boruah Hall of Bihpuria where discussions was held regarding heavy erosion of the bundh along the river near Bihpuria town. The meet resented loss of land, houses and properties of hundreds of families residing within the town area for several years.

The meeting vehemently criticised the district authority as well Flood Control Department of Lakhimpur for their apathy and negligence to repair the damaged bundh despite memorandums submitted to them to take measures against erosion near Bihpuria.

Jadumoni Bora, president of Bihpuria Anchalik Chatra Santha, Golap Saikia, Rohini Bhuyan, Rabin Gogoi, Sukhawanta Sing, Haren Boruah, Dhaniram Gogoi and Prasad Lekharu spoke on the occasion. It is learnt that the Flood Control Department has sanctioned Rs 1.40 crore for protection of the Dikrong bundh several months ago. But due to negligence of the concerned authority, works of repairing and construction of the damaged bundh is yet to start near Bihpuria.

The meeting adopted a resolution to urge the authority concerned to start the construction works of the damaged bundh as early as possible and complete the same before onset of the monsoon season.
