Anti-CAA body deplores BJP chiefs remark

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Oct 23 - The coordination committee against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) today flayed BJP president JP Nadda over his recent remark on CAA at a rally in West Bengal.

Nadda in his speech on October 19 had stated that the implementation of CAA was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and it will be implemented as soon as the COVID situation improves.

We condemn this remark and reiterate that the people of Assam would never accept the unconstitutional legislation. The Assamese people would be reduced to a minority in their own land if the Act is implemented here, president of the committee Dr Hiren Gohain and chief convener Deben Tamuli said here today.

The State had witnessed a strong anti-CAA protest recently. If the BJP-led government once again initiates the process, a spontaneous protest would erupt in Assam and the BJP governments at the Centre and in the State would be responsible for it, the anti-CAA body stated.
