GUWAHATI, Oct 26 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said he will not be an �obstacle� in case the Congress and the AIUDF work towards entering some sort of political alliance or understanding.
Addressing a press conference here today, Gogoi, who had many times in the past opposed any tie-up between the grand old party and the Badruddin Ajmal-led outfit, said there is a need for all the �anti-BJP� forces to come together and fight the �divisive elements� unitedly.
Gogoi said he has no problem if the Congress joins hands with parties like the AIUDF, CPI, CPI(M) and even the BPF and other regional outfits, besides students� organisations, to take on the BJP.
Gogoi, however, added that any decision regarding alliance or understanding will be taken only by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
He termed the results of the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana as a wake-up call for the BJP. �The voters have given a warning to the BJP. There is a sharp decline in the popularity of the ruling party and that is clear if we look at the numbers in Maharashtra and Haryana,� Gogoi said.
The Congress leader alleged that the policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre has proved to be �flop� and so the ruling party is trying to divert the attention of the people by raising issues like Article 370. He also expressed his willingness to share any organisational responsibility the party entrusts to him, including that of APCC president.
�I am ready to serve in any position the party gives me. There are a lot of issues on which we will take on the State government in the coming weeks and months,� added Gogoi.
